Annual General Meeting 11th October 2017

The 2017 Annual General Meeting of the Wellington Cycling Club will be held at 7:30pm on the 11th October 2017 at the Sale Greyhounds Club. All commitee positions will be declared open and nominations taken for the new comittee.

It would be great to see as many current, former and prospective members at the meeting as possible. Membership numbers are down on previous years and attendances at races have been lower still. We needs members with the drive to reinvigorate the club involved in the commitee, so that the club can put on activities that meet the expectations of as many cyclists as possible, arrest the decline in membership and increase participation. The advantages of club membership are many, including insurance while racing and training, and competing in a safe, friendly, inclusive and supportive environment. Membership can be taken out now for the 2018 season, with the advantage that it will cover the rest of 2017 as well- see here for details. Membership may seem expensive to some, but it is cheaper than many items of bling that adorn a lot of cyclists' bicycles. Cheaper options are available for juniors, masters, social riders and members who will only ever compete at a club or combine (regional) level. So if you enjoy cycling and want to get involved at a club level, come along and find out what we have to offer- or suggest what we can do better.

MITCH RANKIN TIME TRIAL CHAMPION

Ride Report from Mike Renehan

Improving under 19 rider Mitch Rankin is making his mark in the senior ranks winning the Wellington Cycling club Time Trial championship on Sunday 10th September. In perfect weather conditions the riders set off individually around the 21.6km course, the only obstacle being a butcher bird trying to put everyone off their stride. Rankin had done his homework on this event and knew what was required to give it a big shake. Completing the course in 33min 18sec Rankin narrowly defeated Aaron Wain by 34sec. Third place went to John Verey and Billy Canny won the junior race. Full results here

Munro Road Race 20th August 2017

Fourteen riders across three grades rolled out from Munro on a cool but sunny morning to race the undulating course to Fernbank and back. Four riders were racing with Wellington CC for the first time; two young brothers from Leongatha CC, Harry and Ollie McLean; Defence Force CC member Dave Elliot; and Don Steward. In addition a couple of regulars made the trip from Bairnsdale- a big welcome to all. Unfortunately Dave Elliot's race ended prematurely with a major tyre blow-out but the young brothers from Leongatha cleaned up A grade. Full results here.
